Frequently Asked Questions

What to expect from outdoor therapy, and what happens when the weather has other plans.

Outdoor Therapy FAQs

Where do we go for outdoor therapy?

There are many places suitable for outdoor therapy in Northwest Arkansas. We often meet at Kessler Mountain for the wide variety of levels of activity it offers. We also take into account the season and temperature. Sessions can be done in most any outdoor environment!

What do I need to bring?

It's a good idea to bring a water bottle. I suggest wearing clothing that will keep you relaxed as you walk, as well as sturdy shoes. Be sure to wear appropriate sun protection, such as a hat, sunscreen, or sun-protective clothing. You may wish to bring bug spray or rain gear.

What happens if there is bad weather?

In the event of inclement weather such as thunderstorms, ice, or extreme heat or cold, we will move our session to telehealth. See the inclement weather policy below for specifics.

There may be days where there is moderate rain, or bad weather is unexpected, and we choose to start our session outdoors. Walking in light rain with a rain jacket or an umbrella can be very cathartic for some individuals and could create a unique healing opportunity to release thoughts that no longer serve you, figuratively washing them away.

Can I bring my dog?

This one is a yes, but. Where we meet as well as your dog's personality will be considered in determining if it's appropriate for your dog to join. I expect you to keep your dog leashed as local laws expect. If having your dog with us in the session will be too much of a distraction to the process of psychotherapy, they may need to wait at home.

For group hiking therapy, I ask that you leave your furry friends at home.

Inclement Weather Policy

Sometimes bad weather can be therapeutic, and sometimes it's just not a good day to be outside. Here are the conditions that move a session to telehealth. When in doubt, email amy.mountaintherapy@gmail.com.

Inclement Weather Policy. Sessions move to a virtual session during active storm warnings; in extreme heat above 95°F or high humidity, with summer sessions held in the early morning; and in extreme cold or ice, typically wind chills below 0°F or when area schools are closed. When in doubt, email amy.mountaintherapy@gmail.com.
